PARENT'S CORNER
Being a parent is
one of the most difficult "jobs" kinown to mankind and being the parent
of a student-athlete can be even more challenging. Most athletes
will tell you that at some point in time one of their parents
served the additional role of being their coach. This is
absolutely normal but for most parents there will come a time when
their ability to coach the sport is not as storng as the child's
ability to play the sport. Unless a parent is a professional
coach like John Beilein or Phil Martelli, two outstanding Division 1
coaches who had the privilege to coach their sons in college, there is
a need to shift from coach to cheerleader at some point in time.
It is a difficult transititon for all to make and some do it better
than others. But even before that needs to happen, there will
undoubtedly be a host of issues to address. This portion of
the website is devoted to helping parents parent their student-athlete
son or daughter. |
