MENTAL TRAINING EXERCISES
Playing "in the zone" used to be thought of as
a chance occurrence. Today there is evidence suggesting
student-athletes can do things which increase the chance he/she will be
"in the zone"during an upcoming competition. Successful
student-athletes are confident, have thoughts before and during the
competition which are performance enhancing, are capable of controlling
his/her emotions before and during competition, have a wide repertoire
of coping skills, and are extremely committed and dedicated to the
sport. These attributes do not occur by chance. This
portion of the website is devoted to a sampling of the skills
successful student-athletes have developed and that aspiring
student-athletes need to develop. |
